Useful links (general)

Hello everyone,

I thought it might be useful to have a place on the blog to put links to useful or interesting websites that we find that could be useful to other people on the course. To make it simpler, let’s use this posting to put links to sites that are for general use or interest, and another posting for sites that are useful specifically for the course or for academic purposes.

I’m going to make a start by putting a link to the TFL (Transport for London) website. This is really useful if you want to know the best way to get from one part of London to another.

Please feel free to add comments here and include links to any websites that you would like to share with your classmates. It may be useful things like the TFL website, or just interesting or fun things such as web sites, interesting or fun You Tube clips, links to restaurants, clubs, events etc. that you enjoyed or would like to visit. You might even like to post links to your own Flickr, Myspace or Facebook pages. There are no rules and you can post links and comments to anything that you would like to share.

So, as I mentioned above, the Transport for London website is useful if you want to know the best, or quickest way to get from one part of London to another. It also it tells you how long the journey is expected to take, and if there are any problems such as traffic jams on the road, or delays on tubes or trains.

It’s very easy to use. Just put the starting point in the top box on the left (can be a station or bus stop, a post code, street name, building etc.), and the destination in the second box. The drop-down list defaults to “station or stop”, so if it’s a different kind of information such as a street name, then you have to change it from the drop-down menu. I’ve lived in London for many years, and I still use this quite often.

The front page also tells you if there are any problems on the Tube. This is really good to check if it’s important to be somewhere on time – such as going to the airport to catch a flight.

  2. Hi~ all.

Today exhibition, The Surreal House, was fantastic!! Althought we have some burden to write the review of this during weekend, your feeling might be the same as mine. Individually, my previous photo-works were mostly based on surrealism that is why I am especially fond of this exhibition.

Anyhow, I will let you know what could be quite useful for you to get general information or study English. It is http://bbc.co.uk, personally I' like to recommend channel 4 but any channel is OK. You'll be able to enjoy watching film, music and so on.

    Have nice weekend~
