Looking at the London project ideas...

Hello all,

Well, I'm delighted with the initial posts on the blog. I  had the computer open last night and it was really nice to see the postings coming in, and I have read all of them.

The next thing that I would like everyone to do is respond to someone else's London Project idea. Have a look through the postings from yesterday and choose a project idea that you think looks interesting, and post any thoughs that you have on it. Of course, you can say whether you like the idea or not and why. You might also like to make any helpful suggestions that you have, or point out anything that you think might be difficult with the idea.

I hope that this will be a fun thing to do, but it also has practical value. Hopefully, looking through the postings will be good practice at skim-reading and reading quickly to find something that interests you, which you can then read in more detail. Also, commenting critically (which simply means with your own ideas) is a very important skill at Master's level.

OK then, I'll leave it up to you, and hopefully you'll get to know your classmates a bit better.

Please post as comments to this posting. Also, remember to make it clear whose idea you are responding to!

  1. Hi~everyone~I saw all your London Projects and I am very interested in Jinny's idea which talks about the cemeteries in London.
There has one reason that I choose this one, that is this topic is much more particular. London is the city where full of vitality, the people, the transport or the communication, everything make us feel exciting. But behind the vitality there still has some culture that is different from what we see, like Jinny's idea, and most of us choose the project from the part of energy in London, so when I saw the idea of Jinny, I think that is a good way to explore another part of London and we can know much more history or culture from it.

  2. I particularly interest the “London project”from Vun. During the passed days I just explored London by tube. As Vun has described,London is a comprehensive city, which mixes all sorts of cultures and people. Chinese,Indian,Arab keep their traditional lifestyles there.Anyway,London is attractive city and it is also difficult to depict because of its abstract, complex and luxuriant.

  3. I have read all the posts on the blog. There are so many brilliant ideas that inspired me a lot.The most fascinating project ,in my opinion,is Bei bei’s idea about sky.

I really appreciate the project because it is so original and romantic.I can not foget the first day I arrived in London ,the first thing I noticed was the gray sky with beautiful cloud in the airport.Every single day,we can find some new color in the sky that is changing every second.Sky is familiar for everyone but London has the most fantastic scenery I have never seen before. So I can find different bright spots when I am obversing the sky in different angles.I am
really looking forward to see the final work.it must be an splandid project.

  4. Hi~ everyone.
Fortunately, I'm getting used to do blog, enjoy reading other's idea and posting comments on this as well. I've never used such this to share ideas with freinds before, Just glanced over someone's blog. But now my emotional state has been totally different since I joined this as a contributor, much enjoy doing this. Hopefully we all will take pleasure by using this throughtout pre-sessional course.

Well, tonight what I wanna say is your all ideas for London projects are brilliant, even better than mine, especially, I'm charmed by Juni, Chao, and CJ's intrest.
Firstly, Juni's concern, window display, would be quite useful for students are studing art, irrespective fine art or design, since personally I think we could read contemporary esthetic taste. Moreover, it's hard not to say that London is a hub of modern art and a multicultural city.
Secondly, I'd like to say Chao's concern, graffity, is the most independent from art market relating to capital and art authorities, such as universities, institutions, museums and so forth. Thus anybody, want drawing on wall in the public place, can do. Of course, this is genarally against rule, but there are some specific areas allowed by government in London, and the areas has been attracted by many anonymous graffitist over the world and even tourists.
Finally, CJ's concern, London double-deck buses, seems to be very simple, but this is representative of London for a long time and most travellers and Londers like getting on this. So, CJ's presentation that will show the history, the reason why this is red and so on is really expected.

  5. Through all the idea about London Project, Jinny’s idea about burial grounds has attracted my attention. I think burial grounds are a good object to show the culture of a nation, because it is a special perspective which is related with a country’s religion and philosophy in life.
However, I also consider this idea as a real hard one. As we know, the religion in Britain is totally different from Korea. To understand it completely needs a long period. When mentioned about culture it always required to know too many things, so I am wondering whether she can get enough time to do the whole job.
Still I hope she can do it well because I extremely interested in her opinion and almost can’t wait to see. Whish her gook luck.

  6. The idea of the the London project I like best is Notting Hill Marke from vivian Lu ,because I have been attractived and moved by the classic film “Notting Hill” directed by Roger Michell since I watched the film for the first time. It is also impressive that the the love between Anna Scott and William Thacker ,so I have implusion to see the bookstore and the surroundings there on my own .
Moreover,I am interested in the Jinny's idea about cemeteries, because cemeteries not only reveal the distinct cultural background and custom, but also it could show the life attitudes and different personalities.

  7. I have read all of the project, I am interested in Chao’s idea. Actually, I agree with his opinion about the free style in London. When I walked in London, especially walked in the central of London, I felt I stand in a colourful world, I like it very much. I think the designers here can express their thoughts mainly because they are free here to create their thoughts. It is easier for a designer to design some beautiful things here because of the good environment. In addition, there are many people come from different countries. They wear different styles of clothes. It seems that a fashion show into our lives. It is interesting.

  8. I am exactly interested in the Renne’s topic, because I have the same expercience. When I walk on the platform of tube, rode, open space, I found the birds are not scared of people at all. These little things still keep eating their food and walking on, just like our people are not exist.

Generally, animals are usually sensitive. They keep distance with us. If they act very securely and feel free in the front of our people, it means we do something right to them. Human beings and animals have the equal statue and respect each other. It’s a part of the inclusiveness of London. What’s more, if human and nature can keep in harmony in an enviroment, the different race and culture can stay paceful and merge together as well.

  9. All of your ideas are interesting, but I really attracted by Jinny's idea of burial groud firstly. I think the difference of burial grouds or cmeteries in the western and the eastern is the difference about where will people go after they died, and what life should people live when they alive. The question is based on the different religions, specially what people belive in effect people's lives, so it is a universal topic to talk about.

I suggest if we attempt to do this topic, we don't need to know what korea cemetery are but think about the cemetery in our countries, because we know more about how people consider this question through what they do or what they think about, though it is not everyone has belief. If possiblly, church will be a good place to get to know related to the topic as well.

  10. I like the concept of Juni, Window display, because it reminds me when I visited London at the first time. I could not take my eyes off many spectacular displays that are more colourful and representative than my country. In addition, this idea can be developed the appropriate way.

  11. Hello, I felt that every ideas of the London project are wonderful. And I appreciate reading the other opinions because this is good opportunity to have sharing other thoughts. I am especially interested in Chao, Bei bei, Jinny’s topics.

Firstly I heard Chao’s idea in the class, I had imagined a graffiti work that I found a top of the building with my friend. It exited incredibly heights. The people drawing graffiti must climb such a place to draw. Bei bei’s idea sky is also attracted me because it is simply I love to see the sky. I like any types of sky that express different color and appearance. They lead me to have any kind of feeling and imagination. Finally, I have being interested in Jinny’s idea. It can be arranged a lot of option for the project, since that relates not only to culture but also to feel atmosphere (this is probably only my opinion?). Because, recently I experienced to see a burial ground when I went to a shrine. The environment gives me special imagination. I hope and look forward seeing their projects.

  12. hello , sorry too late. Through all the idea, I am interested in Beibei’s idea. I agree with it and i also think London's sky is dark gray. It's very heavy but very thorough; it's very muddy but can see the end of it. Just like this city, if use one color to desribe london, i would use the gray, the most clean and gray.
