Hello, all
I post this for today's journal,
so let' s comment to arrange our ideas for London project.
You all look very hard work now. I wish you all would get good result!
The theme of my project, Highgate cemetery, is related to memories. Actually, this theme is not only for London project but also deeply related to my previous works. So you could easily find it as long as you accessed to my web.page.
Personally, I belive each individual's memories that are either good or not would represent their own histories, and people are commenly affected by them. In short, our memories could make us dull, nervous and even angry, of course, happy as well.
In particular, some objects, places and people, relating to our memories, can evoke something like images we faced in the past. That is why, my theme was set as the place of recollection, making me happy. Even if some people would have differnt perspective from mine, at least for me, the place, Highgate cemetery, presented unexpressed pleasures to me: I felt to be forgiven and given consolation while I was in there.
Through the process of my London Project I have done some researches on the London Architecture. Now I have concluded the information to share with my class mate.
When read about the history of London building I found that British People consider the ancient architecture as precious. Long time ago the British government has passed a low saying the old building only can be fixed but not rebuilt. For the aim of keeping the typical style, architectures here was designed to have Hi-tech inside rather than skyscraper appearance.
During the Second World War most building in this city has been destroyed, at that time there was a great lack of architecture material and technical worker. As a result the CLASP system has been founded in 1957 for the purpose of improving the construction and delivery of schools. According to introduce of CLASP it said “consortium addressed issues of skill and material shortage together with a high demand. It turned to a systematic form of construction. One which relied on a high proportion of prefabricated elements and had the ability to be built on sites with poor ground conditions including mining subsidence.” This system has made the early modern architecture in Britain.
Until now the style of building in London is still a harmony combine of old and new.
Today, I am carry on my London project, I recerved the merterials those days, the advertises and some colourful leaflets in the tube station, I am very exciting to begin my project. this is my first project in London, it is really significant for me. I reviewed the instraction of my prensentation.I am a little bit nerves about speaking in front of people, but I believe that we all will do it well after hardworking. The ads are so colourful, what am going to do is cut the interesting things off, then classify them into different colour, it is very funny to do this, I can not waite to see the final work. today when I searched my materials in the 99p shop , I found a piece of paper which is Argentine, I think it very suitable for my facebook, so I bought it without any hesitate. I am going to complete it right now, good luck to everyone, hope to see your works as soon as possible.
So far, I have found three difficult things of my project. Firstly, the weather sometimes really upset me. Once, I went to Notting Hill, since the sky was quite dark, I bought the film of ISO 800, however the sun came out, so I completely use wrong film. Now I know, I need always bring two camera with different films, in case the weather changes all the time.
Secondly, I just get nervous when I take a photo of person. Usually I should watch the people's expression, then guess if they would like to be taken photos. I need to encourage myself to do it.
Finally, I do consider the layout of the poster. I want to fold the poster in an interesting way.Inoder to accomplish the project, I have collected loads of posters and folds. It is a good method for me to find the inspiration.
I have started to make the homepage after making a structure of the website and I have tried some different elements to organize the homepage. So far, I think the difficulty I have met is how can I make the interface more harmonious and attractive, so I am trying to make several blueprints. I want to draw myself and put it into the interface being an element of graffiti.
This is really great. I like that you've taken it upon yourselves to make a new posting and continue writing about your projects. It will be good material for you crit, and also good inspiration for the others in the class. Please feel free to post here any time you like.
This might be a good place to ask each other questions as well, if you need some artistic or practical inspiration from your classmates!
Anyway, keep up the good work,a nd I'm really looking forward to seeing your projects and hearing you talk about them!
At the beginning ,I just went to do a sentence on T-shirt but how to do it .Which materials can be used ?I was very confused .and then ,I decide make a topic for the T-shirt .Pink ,which is my favourite color. I want to use a different way to translate my theme because my major is Fashion Design in university
Yesterday, After class,I bought some different materials for prepare to do the sentence “I love London”.I choose some decorate, such as button ,colourful belt.
Fortunately, I find the paint specially for glass painting and try it on glass bottle when at home today, they are great quality! It means that it is possible to finish my work at least. Then, what to do next is to well organize the presentation with enough information. There are few days left, but I enjoy the busy process very much.
I researched the background history and some information related to London cemeteries on the internet. It is very tough: if I have enough time to prepare for this, it would be more satisfied to share with you. Anyway, the first graveyard of this kind in London was opened in Bloomsbury in 1714, of course, before that time the body was usually buried churchyard, but the population had grown rapidly, the places were running out. So, town planners established it. Particularly, after the cholera epidemic of 1830-31, killing more than 52,000 in Britain, several cemetery were privately run, and become independent from churches. These cemeteries became known as the 'garden cemeteries', and Highgate cemetery, opening 1839, is also one of them. Additionally, at that time the cemeteries were located in out of London, but due to enlarged city, they become to be located inside of city. As attitudes to death changed, however, cemeteries started to fall into disrepair. Afterward, they have been renewed by local council, being their owner now since 1980s. In particular, in Highgate cemetery there are a lot of famous people’s graves, such as Karl Marx, George Eliot and so on, and many books based on this were already published by writers as well. Accordingly, if you want to enjoy a unique historical experience, I strongly recommend this place. You could be satisfied and would not blame me for wasting your time.
Today I still keep working on my artwork, and finally collected all the elements in the work. From today’s class we know the talk is the most important part, so right now I am trying to practice and organized my talks again and again, even though every time is so different and nervous (even alone in the room @@) So hopefully I can get familiar with it soon~!
My artwork was already finished. At the first I went to find some people on the street wear T-shirt and signature on it, but when I finished, I change my mind. This T-shirt is so lovely. This presentation the most important part is speaking. So I decide do not destory it.May be one day I can wear it.
