Hello again everyone

Well, it was really nice to meet you all today in the classroom and I'm really happy that you all seem comfortable talking with me and with each other. This is a really great thing. I also think that there were some really nice ideas bouncing around the classroom for the London Project. When I can, I'll show you some examples of things that were done in the past so that you can see the kind of things that have been done.

So, as I told you today, I'd like us to make a start on using this blog, so the first thing that I would like everyone to do is to make a posting here to introduce yourself and give an idea for the project. It doesn't have to be the thing that you finally do for your assessment, but it would be really good to start collecting ideas together.

So, please write a few lines about yourself, who you are and what your interests are, and a few lines about an idea for the project. You can write as much or as little as you wish, but write at least three or four sentences about the project idea - enough that someone else could look at the idea and comment on it in some way.

Please post these introductions as comments to this posting, not as new posts. It will keep the blog tidy and easy to read if we use new posts for new topics, and comments to write about these topics. You can do this by clicking the POST COMMENT button below this text. Look forward to seeing your postings. Oh, do feel free to upload a pic of yourself if you would like to!

  1. Hi~ I'm Jinny, from Korea. I'm very happy to study together you all and Simon. I'm going to study photography at LCC from next January. Of course, I know that pre-sessional course is really important to study my subject. So, I try to do my best, but I still worry about my poor English skill.
Anyhow, I hope nobody among my class mates, including myself, will fail this course, then all of us are going to university we want. Good luck!

In addition, I'm interested in burial grouds,in other words, cemeteries in London, as the location where they are and the atmosphere are completely different from Korea's. They looked like parks which could be representative of the most peaceful place in ordinary life in London when I saw them for the first time. Hence, I'd like to research on the relationship between cemetery and the western art related to death, but frankly speaking, it sounds quite difficult for me. Well, I'm not sure whether I'll keep this topic for presentation or not so far.

  2. Introduce myself:

My name is Yu Lei, my English name is Renee. I come from China, Hunan Province. I graduated from Central Academy of Fine Art University in 2009 and now I come to here to continue my master degree in Central Saint Martins of Arts London. Besides painting and designing, I like singing and swimming. I am very glad to meet all of you, and I think we will become good friend.

    Interesting things in London:

    (Birds in London)
I found an interesting thing that birds here are not scared about people. When we walked next to it, they were not escape. I like animal, so when I found that, I really like this feeling that human and birds live in the same environment peacefully. They shuttled in the crowd looked leisurely. It can hardly see someone sell birds and keeps birds in cage. In London, birds are safe and free, they can go wherever they want to go, do whatever they want to do. I like birds because I always think they have the spirit of freedom and I am glad to see that they have real freedom in London.

  4. Say hi to everyone~I'm Sophie, from China.I'm going to study illustration at Camberwell.Today is the first class of the pre-sessional course, actually I felt a little bit nervous at first, the new place, new people and the different way to learn English, but then I found that is also an exciting thing. The new classmate are very friendly no matter where we are come from, and Simon is very funny. So I think we will have a nice time together~:)

However, when Simon talked about the London project, firstly i have an idea that is the dressing of the different people who come from different country and have different background, especially the women's wearing. For example, the young girls in London wears very fashionable, but there still have some difference between them, like the India girls may wear a dress which has some traditional feature but still modern. In my opinion, that's not only about the style of wearing, but also has culture in it. All this elements attract me,so I want to research it.Right now I just have an idea about it,maybe I will have another idea in future, however,I will try my best to finish it~

  5. Hello, I'm chao.It is delighted to meet simon and many classmates. I was born in1986 in a city called Lang fang ,where is closed to Beijing, the capital of China.I started learning drawing and chinese traditional ink painting when I was 8 and soon fell in love with it. From 2005,I studied at Beijng institute of printing and gained my multimedia degree in 2009.One day ,I realise my favourite area is book and it can give me more inspiration,so I'm going to study book arts at Camberwell college of arts. I expect that we will be close friends and have a nice time in our class.

As for the ideas of the project,I'm keen on graffiti ,becaues it’s a free style to express artist’s concepts and ideas and it provides colorful popular art and everyone can enjoy it and it is more interactive. In additional ,I am also interested in the independent publish and independent bookstore. I heard that there are a lot of time-honoured bookstores ,so I hope I can vist them if I have opportunity.

  6. Hi everyone~I'm Suie, and I come from Beijing China. I had just finished my BA course in China before i came here. I was studied in Graphic Design and now i'm going to continue my study of Communication Design, in the College of Communication. I had been to London for one month when i was in the high school.

It's an exciting moment for me to studying abroad now. I quite like here because this is the city mixed all different cultures, and combined both traditional and modern things. It seems like an "everything can happen" place, and I hope everyone in our class will experience a piece of brilliant time here.

To talking about my interesting aspect in London, I think the historical buildings are gorgeous. Especially the sculptures on the edges of the building. Some of them have an Victoriana style and some others are Baroque style. Actrually I can't discriminate them clearly, but all of them is extremely elegant. So I'd like to collect the sculptures by taking photos, in addition, maybe I'll use these images to creat some new stuff. By the way, I also interested in London's markets, particularly those which have some vintage toys or other goods. Perhaps I will go to several markets at weekend and discover what i can use in my project.

  7. Hi, I’m only one Thai in our class, Vunnida, called Vun[one]. After I graduated at Chulalongkorn University[Chula] in field of the interior architect, I worked as an interior designer for a while and decided to study MA Creative Practice for Narrative Environments. It is about telling stories in the space related to my job, in my opinion.
London, from my experience, is an amazing place because every nationality is found such as Indian, African and Chinese. When they have stayed for long time, they set up their little cites that make me feel traveling around the world everyday in London. I’ m interested in their different ethnic cultures in the one modern city. In addition, I’m also interested in many markets that have their own characters representing the area of them. Now, I have not decided yet which topic that I will select to the London project.

  9. Hey, guys. Glad to meet you all. My name is Cathy and I am from China. I was born in Zhengzhou city which is small but also modern. When I was young I had never thought that I would be a designer some day, because at that time I was really fascinated by reading books. Everyday day I dreamed about being a writer. I posted my articles to the magazine press waiting it to be published, but they just like disappeared and in the end I gave up. As time goes on, I recognized the thing which attracted me actually is not the articles in book but the book itself. At the same time I learned a well designed book can bring more fun to its reader. Therefore I started to study about design and spend 4 years time in Beijing Institute of fashion and technology as a Visual Communication student. During that period I understood design deeply and then I knew graphic design is not only about the skill I own, but also about the way I think. Having more hobbies and always curious about new things has made the job became easier for me. I like writing and painting, though I can not do them well. I also like watching films, my favorite director is Pedro Almodovar. The most important thing is am as curious as a cat. The new kinds of food here is so attractive to me. Though I am still a green hand in London who even can hardly recognize the coins, I would like to say I enjoy being here very much. Oh, by the way, I am really exciting to know there are so many people going to study in LCC in future. Several months later I am also going to study in LCC for MA Graphic Design. Glad to know so many new friends and my future class mates by this pre-sessional course. Good luck to every one.

Mentioned about the London project, I would like to say the most interesting thing is the architecture here. When I first got to London, to tell the truth I felt the city is quite similar with Beijing. But after a while I noticed that buildings here are special. The sharp top and the colorful brick made them appealing. However, in my London project I am not only going to talk about the buildings but also will include the people hanging around. I want to show my feelings about it by several photos and sketches, I hope you will like it.

In my opinion, the coolest thing in london is the buses which can represent London. The buses are the important part of London, the reason why I like bus is that it provide a new angle to see the beautiful scenery of the city. The double-decker buses are playing a significant role in the pictures of London street, just as the blue sky,the elegant architecture, the beautiful flowers.I will discuss the unique character of the bus,and do some research in the transport museum, finally, I am going to present a project which including report and some pictures. I hope I could receive your opinion about the inspiration.thank you.

  11. Hello everyone, my name is Ji Chen, graduated in Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in 2008. I used to be a clothes graphic designer in China. This september I am going to learn in the Chelsea college for the MA degree of graphic design. I have been in London for 6 months, I am attracted deeply by the city. I think London gives me a lot of inspirations for create graphics. These inspirations sometimes come from the architecture. The most building I like best is the Gherkin. Gherkin is a skyscraper in London's main financial district in 30 St Mary Axe, completed in December 2003 and opened at the end of May 2004. The building uses energy-saving methods which allow it to use half the power a similar tower would typically consume, if you have time you must not miss this building!

  13. Hello,I am Bei bei from Beijing,China, and I am sorry for being late because I still keep fighting against Beijing time. I woke up just now, so the London midnight is my exciting time now, shall I say good morning to everyone?

I am a typical Gemini person living divided life, I usually love and do different things at the same time, so I have always troubled by too many choices in my life, I can not give up any of them, therefore I had tried them all.

Actually, maybe my experience is really different from most of members in pre-sessional course. I will study MA illustration in Camberwell Collage of Arts, but my major in BA was TV editing and directing in University of Communication of China, after graduation I worked in Chinese mainly media as an TV planner, editor and jonalist, what impressive is that I joined into the team of reporting Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. In addition, I was an animator, comic columnist as well just because I love drawing and telling story, and I have always served for TV station, newspaper and records company for many years as freelancer. Moreover, the most interesting thing is I had ever been a professinal party organizer, the maximum number of my party is nearly 400 people. Those had been totally crazy time but over now.

The reason why I hope to study illustration is I consider drawing as my best friend, we have been pleased to each other for many years. After doing so many interesting but noisy things I decided to give specific time for my best friend and treat it seriously when I am not too old, and I hope to completely focus on it only, and understand it more.So I come to the UAL and ready to enjoy the moment.

The most interesting thing in London for me is the sky. I have seen sky in different angles in many places, but the lovely and beautiful clouds in London inspired me a lot, and I often see and hear the airplane flying across the sky, it is different from Beijing. The most funny thing is the seagull, I had never seen them in Beijing dailylife. Specially sometime I heard the voice of airplane, when I looked up to the sky I could not find any airplane but a seagull flying through my head, and sometime I heard the voice of seagull but only can see an airplane flying. Because they looked similar, so that is fantastic and dramatic moment!

  14. Hello, everyone~I’m bonnie,a Chinese girl.I majored in Multimedia and graduated from China Academy of Art last year.In the past several months, I worked in a webgame company as a Webpage&UI designer in Shanghai. And I'll going on my study in Camberwell of Digital Arts. Well, in the first class of our pre-sessional course, I feel the Simon and classmates are all friendly and nice```Although I am nervous about my English skill, with your kindly guys, I think I will improve my language step by step.Let's come on together!

I just been here about four days,so i am try to adapt to London’s food and adjust my biological clock now, It's hard. The most important thing I chose this university because it's located in London, I think it's really exciting to experience the culture shock in this international city.Furthermore, there are so many types of museums, exhibitions and art zones in London which attractive to me a lot. About the London project, I'm interested in the shop which sold delicate cards, because in my country I haven't see this before, but I have not decided which topic to be my project yet.

  15. Hello, I am Hisako, people say Sako as my nickname. Finally I got here! and sorry for posting late. The first impression of the class was very good, although I was a bit nervous for being only one person who came from Japan. I exited the first time we had, and happy for having that time with new classmate. I hope we will have special time as the course.

When I was in Japan, I worked as graphic designer for several years after graduated art of college in Tokyo, and am going to continue studying the same subject. I am also interested in the other medias such as illustration, painting, photography, films and so on. Why I chose the subject as my further study is that is including a lot of elements in some ways. In this sense I am always thinking how I can make a use these elements as proper ways.

To say the interesting topic in London, I am considering about it and found that it is not easy to decide due to there are some topics I found after the first class. However, firstly I thought a good idea that was the system lent bicycles in the city that I found wherever recently. You might see these bicycles with small towers that you can pay some money for the lent. Despite the topic now I am thinking about gardens as the topic of this project, since there are so many beautiful gardens here. To be honest, I haven’t decided which things is the best thing, even I may be able to find the other thing. I hope I can find most suitable topic.
